Hi, friends! How was your weekend?
We had so much fun at the Detroit Jazz Festival! We kicked off our weekend by attending a Jazz Mass in Detroit. The worship music was wonderfully uplifting, and the entire Mass celebration was absolutely beautiful.

Travis and I couldn’t stop smiling and talking about how much we loved Sunday’s Mass. Our favorite part about the Mass was hearing how such beautiful jazz music can be used to praise the Lord.

As Fr. Robinson said, the jazz music celebration wasn’t intended to entertain us, but instead, the purpose of the music was to praise and worship the Lord.
And it was indeed a beautiful worship experience that deeply touched our hearts and encouraged our faith.

After Mass, the church hosted a reception with refreshments and live jazz music. We found a spot on the balcony, where we enjoyed some food while listening to the music and taking in the atmosphere.
It was such a lovely way to spend the afternoon together as a family. 😊

After the reception, we headed downtown for the Jazz Festival. Our first stop was at Campus Martius, one of the city parks, for a family picnic.
We packed lemonade, turkey sandwiches, pretzels, and cinnamon sugar donuts from our favorite farm store.
I even made Travis and me some hot strawberry caramel rose tea and poured it into a Thermos.

The boys wanted to take pictures while we were at the city park, so I let them each take turns with my Canon camera.

After our picnic, we walked to Hart Plaza for the festival.
All of a sudden, as we got close to Jefferson Avenue, the kids excitedly yelled, “There’s a playground! Can we go to the playground?!”

I’m not sure when the city installed a playground at this spot, but in the past, there didn’t used to be one there.
The kids had a blast! They said their favorite play structure was the “spinny thingy.” They like to call a merry-go-round a “spinny thingy.” Lol 😄

Every time we go to this park near our house, they always ask: “Are we going to the park that has the spinny thingy?” 😂

We loved our experience at the Detroit Jazz Festival so much that we went back the next day (Labor Day)!
I like that the event is a four-day festival. It gave us an opportunity to take our time and coordinate which days worked best for us. We definitely plan to attend the Jazz Festival next year!
So that was our fun, uplifting weekend! How was yours?
💜 XO
