January always feels like the longest month of the year, especially when you’re stuck in the house because of super cold weather and snowstorms!
In January, we had snowstorm after snowstorm, a week and a half of being sick, extra cozy reading days, and — just to keep things interesting — a squirrel somehow got into our basement. 🐿😂 (It took four days to get the squirrel out!)

Here are a few blog highlights from the month of January.
- Welcoming the New Year 2026 — A few photos of how we celebrated the New Year.
- The Day a Gas Station Attendant Shared Humble Words of Wisdom — Something unexpectedly meaningful in an ordinary place.
- Photos from how we celebrated MLK, Jr. Day in Detroit.
- This Jane Austen puzzle I found at a local bookshop is a fun, low-key activity that helps me slow down every time.
- Five things I’ve learned after daily blogging for thirty-five days.
- A new life chapter—whether I’m ready or not!
How was your January?

Days like this remind me how important it is to slow down with the kids.
