August library book picks 📚

My August library book picks are Texas Rain by Jodi Thomas and Virgin River by Robyn Carr. The reviews for both books seem to be good, so I thought I’d give them a try.

Both novels are set in a small town. I love small-town romance novels, especially those set in the South, since I’m originally from Tennessee.

Texas Rain is a historical romance novel, which is another fiction genre that I enjoy reading.

Virgin River is actually a TV series on Netflix, but the previews of the show don’t look interesting to me.

I’ve heard that the books are quite different from the show, though, so that’s why I checked out the book.

I’m currently watching Ransom Canyon on Netflix. The romance drama is inspired by Jodi Thomas’ novel series.

However, when I discovered the show last summer, I didn’t know it was based on a book until halfway into watching the show.

I almost checked out the Ransom Canyon, but it’s really hard for me to get into a book after watching the show/movie it was based on. (That’s why it’s been taking me what seems like forever to finish reading Outlander. 😫)

So, I decided to give Texas Rain a try instead. It’s the first book in her Whispering Mountain series.

What are you reading this month?

There’s nothing to watch on Netflix

I’ve been sick since Friday, and most of my days have been spent in bed resting.

So, naturally when you’re sick, you binge watch TV. I’ve been watching a ton of gardening videos (of course! 😂) on YouTube and some Heartland (my comfort show).

But why is there nothing interesting to watch on Netflix?! 😲

Yellow Door Urban Homestead is one of my favorite gardening channels on YouTube. 😊
I also love watching MIGardener on YouTube! Very informative gardening channel. 🌿

This evening, I spent 30 min searching through Netflix’s content, and I only found maybe 5 or 6 movies/shows that seem interesting. They’re all older, too. Maybe between 2007 – 2021.

I pay $20/month for what exactly? 😏 I’m seriously thinking about canceling my subscription. Lol

Happy Friday

Three things to reflect on in honor of September 11th.

Eight Comfort Shows I Return To

I wasn’t feeling good today, so Travis took off from work early to care for the kids so I could rest.

I am so thankful for his love and care. I was able to get into pajamas by 3:30 p.m.—something I normally don’t get to do on a weekday!

While Travis took the kids to the library for a homeschool meetup, I relaxed in our cozy bed watching one my favorite TV series (Southland). I got to thinking about how comforting it is to rewatch a favorite movie or TV show when I feel anxious or under the weather.

My go-to comfort shows are the Canadian television series Heartland, Downton Abbey, The West Wing, Grantchester, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, ER, Pride & Prejudice (starring Kiera Knightley and Matthew Macfayden), and Persuasion (starring Dakota Johnson).

What’s a show or movie you always return to when you need comfort?

Happy Friday!

Four fun things for Friday, including a new art exhibit I’m excited to see.
