For Dolly 🦋

A couple of years ago, I bought a Dolly Parton graphic tee that I spotted at Target. The shirt included one of her famous quotes, “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”

So this past Saturday, it only seemed fitting to wear my Dolly shirt when Travis and I went to the farmers market.

On the way to the farmers market, we listened to a music playlist I created called “Favorite Americana.” It’s a mix of my favorite folk and country songs.

“Do I Ever Cross Your Mind,” featuring Chet Atkins and Dolly Parton, started playing while we sat and wait for a train to pass.

I keep a personal diary, and in my diary, I like to add photographs, newspaper clippings, prayer cards, quotes, and other types of ephemera I collect to document each day.

For my August 26th diary entry, I created a Dolly Parton page and included this little memory:

“My childhood memories of Dolly are Christmas specials, 9 to 5 movie, Sweet Magnolias, Kenny Rogers, Tennessee, her laugh and smile, big blonde hair, Dollywood.”

Growing up in Tennessee, Dolly Parton was a huge icon for the state. Whenever I hear one of her songs, it always reminds me of home, especially “My Tennessee Mountain Home.”

At church yesterday, one of the prayer intentions during Mass was for Dolly Parton. That made me smile.

I think it’s true what they say: Dolly Parton was universally loved.

Eternal rest grant onto Dolly, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace. Amen.

Thank you, Dolly.
